Working up a sweat: Brenda Song flaunts her toned figure after gruelling gym session

The Suite Life of Zack & Cody star Brenda Song looked like she had a particularly strenuous session at a Studio City gym on Friday.

The sweaty 24-year-old flaunted her fit form in a black Nike sports bra under a large white tank top, black capri leggings, and interesting black shoes.

And the work-outs appear to be working as the five-foot-two starlet looked slimmer than her last sighting in October.

Brenda looked grumpy in autumn as she stepped out in a provocative T-shirt with a symbol resembling a swastika that read 'offender.'

It was quite a departure for the actress, who was once dubbed the 'Queen of Disney.'

The Asian American stunner also flashed the large rose tattoo on her right bicep on Friday as she left the gym.

Song was inspired to get inked while engaged to Trace Cyrus, the guitarist brother of singer Miley and his father, Billy Ray.

The 23-year-old musician's chest, arms, and head are completely covered in colourful tattoos.

The former couple dated for two years before splitting last spring, just days after news of Miley's engagement to Liam Hemsworth.

'Brenda and I have decided to go our separate ways,' Trace confirmed to Just Jared.

'We split up a couple of months ago. We will continue to focus on our careers. I wish Brenda thebest and much success in the future.'

Before Cyrus, Brenda dated All My Children star Jesse McCartney.

The Social Network actress was recently cast in two profile-raising roles.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Song will play a competitive woman named Daisy interested in Winston (Lamorne Morris) in this season of Fox's New Girl.

And actress Brittany Snow recently confirmed Brenda's appearance in Lifetime's upcoming psychological film, Five More.

Snow tweeted: 'Brenda Song from Social Network and @brittanysnow taking a #loveislouderbreak on the set of #5more.'

Jennifer Aniston will produce and Ashley Judd will direct Brenda alongside Oscar winners Octavia Spencer and Jennifer Hudson.

She'll also appear in the musical drama Boogie Town, a modern day West side Story for the hip-hop generation, which takes place in futuristic New York.

Keeping low profiles as they strolled to their local 7 Eleven in LA at 1'o'clock in the morning, Brenda Song and ex Trace Cyrus certainly looked as if they had something to hide.

The former couple, who broke off their engagement in summer last year, were seen renting a movie and carrying some essential items that they had just bought before going home together in the early hours.

And if they were trying to go unnoticed, their plan was foiled when they were pictured again the very next day at the restaurant Sushi Dan in LA.

However, on Tuesday it seemed to be a different story.

Both Brenda and Trace were acting extremely sheepish together as they went for a midnight snack, and then were spotted out early the next day.

They also had appeared to have had a change of clothing overnight.

The pair began dating in May 2010 and in August 2011 it was rumored that Brenda was pregnant, though the news was never confirmed.

The the five-foot-two starlet has recently been hitting the gym and has seemed slimmer lately.

The Suite Life of Zack & Cody star was seen chatting to a friend alongside Trace as they went for lunch.

Interestingly, she tweeted on Friday: 'Sometimes good things fall apart, so that better things can fall together..'

Then added: 'Don't give up on someone you can't go a full day without thinking about..'

However, there is still no news on whether Trace's sister Miley will be able to reignite her romance with actor Liam Hemsworth.

Neither Liam nor Miley have confirmed or denied reports that they've split, despite several sources saying they have.

‘GENERAL HOSPITAL’ RUMORS: BRENDA AND JAX MAY RETURN TO PORT CHARLES, WHAT ARE THEY UP TO NOW?

Could there be a Jax and Brenda return soon on General Hospital? It may happen, and fans all seem to have mixed feelings about this rumor. As Celebrity Dirty Laundry has just recently pointed out, the cover of Soaps in Depth had a photo of both GH vets, saying that they could be potential wedding crashers.

Of course, the wedding would be that of Sonny and Carly, who are trying to get married for the fifth time. However, the Carson wedding was halted when the mobster groom was shot and is now in critical condition at the hospital, just barely hanging onto life. He is expected to recover eventually, and that may be when Jax and Brenda make their appearance.

This is only a rumor for now, but CDL said that there is a suggestion in the soap magazine that their return all has to do with ELQ. Yes, the fight for the Quartermaine company, which is now in the hands of Nikolas Cassadine, may again be in the forefront after Sonny recovers and he decides to help Anna Devane gain control of ELQ. The word is that Tracy enlists Jasper Jacks to help her win back the family business, and of course, Brenda tags along, as well, to make sure that Sonny is okay.

What will this mean for Sonny and Carly to have their former flames back in town? They are intent on getting married, but with the rumored return of Jax and Brenda, there are always those feelings and emotions that are brought back whenever those two are around.

The rich history of these General Hospital power couples have such a past. While some viewers are super fans of Sonny and Brenda, others are haters of Brenda Barrett and want Sonny and Carly to live happily ever after. Whether you love her or hate her character, actress Vanessa Marcil plays the role of Brenda quite well, and teaming up with actor Ingo Rademacher is always a delight to watch.

The whole ELQ takeover might be a stretch in getting those two back on screen. Nothing is set in stone just yet until General Hospital, or one of the soap actors, makes an official announcement that they are, indeed, coming back to Port Charles.

This return could definitely mean trouble for Sonny and Carly, as they prepare to try once again to get through their wedding vows. Jax and Brenda could crash their wedding and cause trouble for them. Even though Sonny is all set to spend the rest of his life with Carly, having Brenda Barrett back always seems to stir up those old feelings.

For now, Sonny is fighting for his life, with his family and friends surrounding him with love. Carly, along sons Michael and Morgan, are at the hospital waiting for word on whether he will pull through or not. According to Reality Today, Michael may be taking over as mob boss, while his brother, Morgan, could be going after Julian Jerome, who he believes is the shooter. 'General Hospital' Spoilers: Are Jax & Brenda Heading Back To Port Charles? [PHOTO]

Once he recovers from a near fatal gunshot wound, Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Carly (Laura Wright) could find some additional threats to their happily ever after ending on General Hospital.  

According to some new rumors both Jax (Ingo Rademacher), Carly's ex-husband, and Brenda Barrett (Vanessa Marcil), one of Sonny's own exes, are both headed back to Port Charles-meaning they could pose problems for the pair who may still choose to marry after Sonny recovers.  

Celebrity Dirty Laundry reports that there have been hints that the two exes would come to town at the request of Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot)-perhaps in an attempt to make sure that Sonny doesn't try to take over ELQ--which is currently controlled by Nikolas (Tyler Christopher). 

However, another potential theory could relate to whoever has been trying to take over Sonny's territory, which was how he got shot. Everyone has continually been suspecting that Julian Jerome (William DeVry) is responsible for the hijackings on Sonny's shipments, TJ's (Tequan Richmond) kidnapping and Sonny's recent shooting. However, none of the associates who have been suspected in the crimes have ever officially confirmed that Julian is their boss and is at fault-meaning the person behind everything could still be unknown. 

If Jax and Brenda are both coming back to town, it could bring a new twist to the mystery. Whether they know who is responsible or not remains to seen-but the key to that mystery could lie with them.

And it couldn’t have come any sooner for Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo, the Daytime Emmy Award winning actress who created the role of Brenda in 1992 and returned to it last summer after an 8-year absence. She  recently sat down with us to talk about Brenda, Sonny, Carly, and Jason.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: So it finally happened!VANESSA MARCIL GIOVINAZZO: I know! Brenda’s like the female James Bond. Her weddings never happen. She’s just forever single. [Laughs] So it happens, they end up marrying, despite everything. It’s kind of cute. I do think they’re good for each other.

I think you love who you love and that’s who you should be with. I think that they are both so dysfunctional and damaged in a certain way that only each other could really accept the other person. But it’s what happens right after the wedding that  is kind of an explosive shock that nobody is expecting. And no,  it doesn’t have to do with the baby…

The wedding-day drama included an international crime lord (Daniel Benzali’s Balkan) trying to kidnap Brenda, some devilry from Carly (Laura Wright), and the revelation that Sonny’s son Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) helped you keep secret a baby you carried. You guys walked a fine line with the whole Dante/Brenda story line, teasing the possibility of a past affair.
There was a really good connection between them and we wanted to keep the audience guessing and wondering if they had an affair…i just really wanted to walk that line of did they or didn’t they. It’s always nice to be surprised as an audience. So there are a lot of surprises this week.

Why do you think people love Brenda and Sonny together?I don’t watch my scenes on the show, so I don’t know what other people see but I know what I feel working with Maurice. It’s like listening to music. He makes me feel like a kid again, instantly. I think that’s an interesting dynamic. Someone who makes you feel like a kid. like your first love. No matter how old you get they still bring you back to that feeling, that first blush of love. That’s how I feel about Maurice in real life. He’s god-like to me, so that may be pumping through. I think it’s because of him but I think  that also it may be because I feel so much for him that it comes through.

What do you think of the continued friction between Carly and Brenda?I think that Laura Wright is sucha a professional and really has the funnest character to play ever. And she is just up for it. She’s up for anything. Carly and Brenda don’t actually have that many interactions. I think I’ve worked with Laura a total of 10 times. But there’s a lot of stuff that she does that Brenda’s at the core of. I kind of love that Brenda’s a little oblivious to just how dangerous she could be because it’s been such a long time since they really interacted. With the things that happen this week,  it becomes clear to her that this woman is a serious threat to her life. That things are the same for this girl as they were when they were 20. Nothing’s changed. There’s some serious kind of Jersey Shore stuff between these two.

It does seem like they are fixed in a certain point in time for each other. While it may seem that Carly has evolved in some ways, particularly with regard to Michael, with Brenda she’s regresses.
I know many people like that. Just because you age in years, doesn’t mean you grow up in reality.

What are Brenda’s worst traits?
She’s incredibly immature and really impulsive and reactionary. I think she runs from things that scare her rather than kind of push through them.  It was cute when she was 20. I think it gets a little more tragic as she gets older but it’s certainly fun to play a dysfunctional person. I don’t think evolved people are fun to watch.

This is true. Normal people are boring. 
[Laughs] Yes, I’m very boring in my real life.

Fans really love Brenda and Jason (Steve Burton) together.
I love working with Steve. I love us together too. I would have an affair with him…they’ve never done that! I would love to do that. I would stay a second longer to do a Jason-Brenda-Sonny triangle. I’ve had a crush on Steve Burton since we went to high school together [on the show]. We went to the prom together on the show. He’s hot! I’m a New York girl and he’s… like a blond-haired blue-eyed Guido, don’t you think? [laughs] He’s so cute and sweet.

So you could see doing an arc with him?Working with any of the people I worked with as kids back in the day is really nostalgic and fun. But I have to say that other than Maurice, who was the reason I came back for the visit, working with Steve’s been the most fun I’ve had. I’d do any kind of story with him. Which says a lot because I usually won’t do everything. He’s just really smart and really quick and sharp. Smart and funny – some of my favorite qualities.

Smart, funny and hot…Yeah,  which we know doesn’t happen very often.

Now that the wedding is done and the ensuing drama is about to play out, will you be staying on longer than the original planned year?I always just came for a visit from the very start. It’s really up to Bob [Guza, GH head writer] and what’s good for the show. I just kind of humbly come in whenever they let me come in and out.
